Acid Reflux Dietary and Natural Remedies Recommendations
The use of drugs for acid reflux, heartburn, or gastroesophageal disease (GED), is not always warranted. Drugs do not cure this disease and should only be used when there is some tissue damage in the esophagus, if you want to use them. Your arsenal list when attacking acid reflux should be diet and natural remedies. Some times the solution can be very simple, but you need to be willing to take action.
Diet has an important place in curing acid reflux.

Natural Remedies To Use For Acid Reflux
Here are the main natural remedies that you can use to reduce or eliminate acid reflux. These remedies are also good for other stomach problems, digestive problems, and even Hiatal Hernia.
- Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice Root or DGL – take one to two 400 mg tablets and dissolve in your mouth about 20 minutes before your meal. DGL will sooth and heal tissue damage in the esophagus and stomach.
- Digestive Enzymes - take 2 capsules at meal time. These enzymes will help you digest protein, carbohydrates, and fat. If you have a stomach ulcer, avoid using digestive enzymes that digest protein. If you don’t have a gallbladder, than use digestive enzymes that are called “enteric” which will dissolve passed your stomach and in your small intestine. Using digestive enzymes for acid reflux is extremely important, especially if you are over 40, since as you age you produce less digestive enzymes.By taking digestive enzymes at any age, you are saving your digestive enzymes to be created when you don’t take enzymes. Your body can only create a fixed number of enzymes in your life time.
- Aloe Vera – take 1-2 tablespoons of whole leaf Aloe Vera gel 1 – 3 times a day. You can also use the Aloe Vera drink and drink a couple of ounces 3 times a day. Aloe Vera is extremely effective in healing breaks in your tissue.
- Herbal Remedies – slippery elm and marshmallow root – take a 300 mg capsule three times a day of each herb. These herbs help to reduce the inflammation in your esophagus and stomach.
- Probiotics – take good bacteria to improve your food digestion. Use lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus. Both digestive enzymes and probiotics should be used frequently even if you don’t have acid reflux.
- Calcium and Magnesium, Vitamin D – take a capsule containing these minerals and vitamin just before your meal to relax the esophagus and stomach muscles.
