Constipation Relief With Natural Remedies 

We all have constipation on occasion.  But when you have constipation week after week then it is time to do something about it.  You don’t want to be constipated because the health of your colon determines the health of your body.

Try to avoid using drugstore laxative.  TV advertises them as safe and effective.  These laxatives are not safe and natural remedies should be used instead.

Constipation symptoms 

Here are some symptoms that tell you that you are constipated:  flatulence, bowel movements every two to five days, straining to have a bowel movement, thin diameter stools, stools that don’t float in the toilet water, stools that are broken up in pieces, sensitivity in the abdomen, loss of appetite, nausea, and a uneasy feeling.

Sudden time increases in your frequency of bowel movements can indicate a more severe underlying health problem.    Constipation on occasion can point to a colon disease.  Constipation combines with tiredness can indicate hypothyroidism.  If you have strong concerns about your constipation, see your doctor right away.

Cause of Constipation

Here are the typical causes of constipation:  inactivity, use of drugs, stress and anxiety, hypothyroidism, liver weakness, excessive use of laxatives, excessive use of enemas, a diet of processed foods, poor fiber intake, excessive bad bacteria in the colon, and colitis.  There are some people that have colon dysfunction or defecation dysfunction.  Their colon does not have strong peristaltic action.

A Diet for Constipation

Eating and drinking more fiber and water is the first step in dealing with your constipation.  For some of you this will help, but for severe constipation it will require the additional use of natural laxatives.   Add fiber to your diet slowly.  Eating to much fiber can give you gas and cause more constipation.  Start by cooking your vegetables for a couple of minutes and add them to some vegetables that are not cooked.

Eat these foods:  green leafy vegetables, kale, broccoli, spinach, Brussels sprouts, carrots, celery, cucumbers and yellow squash.

Avoid these foods since they don’t provide you with good nutrients and they take longer to go through your intestinal tract.   Excess saturated fats, dairy products, fried foods, processed and junk food, products made with white flour, or sugar.

Constipation Natural Remedies 

  1. Probiotics and Digestive Enzymes – take these nutrients during meals and also between meals to get probiotics into the colon.

  2. Flaxseed – use 2 tablespoons of raw flaxseeds and add them to your salad.  You can ground them up and mix them into salads, soups after they have cooled off, and into health smoothies. 

  3. Fenugreek and Gentian root herbs – use 250 mg of each herb, twice a day, with meals.  They improve your colon’s ability for peristaltic movement

  4. Aloe Vera Juice or capsules – use a quarter cup of juice or capsules as directed on the label.  You can experiment to see how much you need before you see results. 

  5. Oxypowder – this is a fast acting product that will activate peristaltic action and help to clean out your colon of past accumulations.

  6. Natural Remedy for chronic constipation:  mix 5000 – 7000 mg of ascorbic acid, Vitamin C, powder with 1500 mg of magnesium oxide powder.  Mix this into a glass of fresh orange or grapefruit juice.  You can use a buffered vitamin C to reduce stomach upset.
