Discover how to Reduce High Cholesterol Naturally

High blood cholesterol puts you at risk for developing heart disease and stroke. However, many people that have heart attacks or strokes have normal cholesterol. But having high cholesterol is not natural so it is in your best health interest to keep a normal cholesterol level.

Cholesterol is made in the liver and comes into your body through food. To get it into your cells and wherever it is used in your body, cholesterol is moved there, in the blood stream, by lipoproteins. Lipoproteins that distribute cholesterol throughout your body are called low-density lipoproteins, LDL. Now, those lipoproteins that pick up the excess cholesterol that the cells did not or could not use are called high-density lipoproteins, HDL. This excess cholesterol is return to the liver, which passes it along to the gallbladder to excrete it out of your body through your stools.

If you eat enough fiber, then a lot of cholesterol is bound up in the fiber and excreted in your stools. If you eat a low fiber diet, then cholesterol moves into the colon and some of it is reabsorbed into your blood stream through the colon walls.

When you have excess cholesterol in your blood and it becomes oxidized by the attack of free radicals, then cholesterol attaches itself to your artery walls. Over time this cholesterol that deposits on your artery walls can build up making them narrow and hard. This condition is called arteriosclerosis and sets the stage for you to have a heart attack or stroke as you age.

Normal total Cholesterol levels: 165 – 200 mg/dL

Normal LDL: below 130 mg/dL

Normal HDL: 50 mg/dL or higher

The ratio levels of the different cholesterols are the most important normal indicators.

Ratio of total cholesterol/HDL should be less than 3.7

Ratio of total LDL/HDL should be less than 3.0

Another more accurate measure of potentially dangerous cholesterol levels is found in a cholesterol particle that is found in both LDL and HDL. This particle is known as ApoB, Apolipoprotein B, and is found in LDL and ApoA-1, Apolipoprotein A-1, which is found in HDL.

Normal Reference Range ApoB: 55 – 125 mg/dL

Normal Reference Range Apo-1: 125 – 215 mg/Dl

Normal Reference Ratio Range ApoB/ApoA-1: 0.30 – 0.90
