Antioxidants Give Asthma Relief

Free radicals play a big role in inducing bronchi constriction and elevating mucus secretion in asthmatic. Using antioxidants for eliminating free radicals and for building up your immune system, then makes a lot of sense. Two antioxidants, but there are plenty more, that are necessary for reducing asthmatic conditions are selenium and Glutathione.
The other important antioxidants and minerals for asthma are vitamin A, C, and E, magnesium, B12, B6, quercetin
Vitamin C can help in reducing asthma attacks. It is capable of stopping bronchial constriction and reducing histamine production and release. In the blood, vitamin C can also lower histamine levels, after histamine has been excreted into the blood. How much vitamin C do you need to take? Take between 3000 mg to 4000 mg per day and spread the dose out to 3 times a day. Take vitamin C with each meal so that it combines with the other nutrients. Use Ester C if other Vitamin C supplements give you stomach problems.
If 4000 mg vitamin C give you diarrhea, then back off to 3500 to see it you still get diarrhea. Continue backing off on the amount you are taking, until you have no more diarrheas.
Taking other antioxidant nutrients is also good, since they help to protect from free radical damage and irritation. Your body can use all the help it can get to fight free radicals. So, take 400 IU of vitamin E and 10,000 IU of beta-carotene. A clinical study showed pregnant women who were low on vitamin E had children that were more prone to asthma.
Magnesium is mineral that helps asthma, since it helps to relax muscles and tissue. Take a supplement of magnesium, which also contains calcium, or get it in foods such as whole grains, or seafood. Take 400 mg of magnesium aspartate, amino acid magnesium, twice per day.
Vitamin B12 has been found to be needed in providing relief for childhood asthma. In clinical trails injections of 1000 ug of B12 created improvement in patients with asthma. B12 is most helpful in people with sulphite sensitivities. Take your B12 vitamins just prior to your meals.
Vitamin B6 also helps to reduce the frequency and severity of asthma attacks and wheezing. To get all of the B vitamins, use a supplement called B100. This supplement has all of the B-vitamins that you need.
Quercetin is a flavoniod, a chemical in fruits and flowers that gives them their color. Quercetin has a high activity against asthma and acts somewhat like the drug Cromolyn. What quercetin does is block the release of histamine from “mast cells.” By doing this, quercetin substantially reduces the irritation and inflammation reaction to allergens.
Also, quercetin blocks another inflammatory and destructive substance that is release by the “mast cells” called leukotriene. This substance is a thousand times more powerful and harmful than histamine. You will need to take bromelain to improve the absorption of quercetin, since it is not readily absorbed. Use quercetin twice a day at 300mg
N-acetylcysteine is a powerful nutrient that has antioxidant properties and replaces used up, unhealthy cells with new, healthy ones. It helps produce Glutathione in the liver and give the immune system a boost.
If you have asthma, then also use N-acetylcysteine, which helps to control mucus. It is recommended that you take N-acetylcysteine twice a day at 500 mg. Only use it for one month, since it is an amino acid. After that, if you use it, take a balance amino complex. Amino acids should be taken in a balanced formula.
