Herbs, Tea, and Kids

Just as adults need to use herbs and teas, so do kids benefit from these natural remedies. However, kids need a different amount of herbs or tea herbs than do adults. In some cases, herbs for kids need to be made more pleasant to eat or drink. Since kids react quicker to natural remedies and foods that heal, it makes a lot of sense to use these remedies on the first signs of illness.

Here are some ways herbs for kids can be used so that kids have a pleasant experience with herbs.

  1. If you use or have tinctures, place the tincture into a cup with less than a cup of water and warm water. After the water has cooled, the alcohol should be gone and now you can add more water or put this water into juice for your kid.

  2. You can add tinctures or the powder in capsules into food such as cereal, milk, and so on.

  3. Again with tinctures, add them straight into various juices

  4. Tea herbs can be used with kids and adults by adding some honey

When you use herbs for kids or tea herbs, if this is the first time, always take a small amount and give it to them to see if they have any reaction to it. Then check them in a couple of hours. Most people are not allergic to herbs, but there are always a few that are.

Here are some guidelines on how much herbs for kid to use.

6 – 30 lbs use 1/5 adult dose

31 – 59 lbs use 1/4 adult dose

60 – 89 lbs use 1/3 adult dose

90 – 119 lbs use 1/2 adult dose

120 – 149 lbs use 3/4 adult dose

Herbs should be taken with meals or just before. If your kid has an acute condition, then use herbs every three hours. When using Echinacea and the signs of a cold or flu have just started use it every half hour for 2-3 hours then back off to every 3 hours or so. For normal situations, use herbs for kid by following the recommend frequency of about 3 times a day.

Tea herbs such as peppermint, which are good for stomach aches, are enjoyed by kids.  Again add honey or other natural sweetener to encourage your kid to drink the tea. For the young kids only use herbal capsule powders which can be open to put into food.

Introduce your kid to natural medicines, herbs, and natural remedies early and they will continue their use as the get older and they will teach their kids the benefits of herbs for kids.
